藝術家陳萬仁以鷹架和梯具在室內搭構出建設工地,空間有如未完工狀態,究竟是建構中?還是拆除中?這些空間內的多餘搭建,直接曝露出未修飾的粗糙,透過光影投射結合動態影像拼貼,使實體的粗簡於此轉換為一座虛擬城市。

暗影中,投射著小人物穿梭活動,行動與日常無異。這突增而多餘的城市,來自於現實,卻不存在於現實,它有無限的可能,卻狀似嘮叨囉唆、日常而無用,像則多餘的故事、述說著平凡無奇的生活物語。藝術的產出是否也如是?夾藏在多餘無用的生活片刻內,卻擁有可能超越且突襲現實的能力。


Using scaffolds and ladders in a brilliant manner, CHEN Wan-Jen developed a seemingly unfinished indoor construction site that one cannot tell whether it is under construction or demolition. These redundant materials directly exposed the unpolished crudeness of this space. Exhibiting a perfect fusion of light sculpture and moving-image collage, this work magically transformed the physical roughness into a virtual city.

In the shadows is the projection of nonentities’ quotidian activities. The suddenly appearing and redundant city comes from the real world but doesn’t actually exist. Endless possibilities notwithstanding, the city is as much garrulous, humdrum, and picayune as a redundant tale about a mediocre life. Does it apply to the production of art as well? Hidden amidst redundant, fiddling moments of life, art has the potential to transcend and raid the reality.

陳萬仁以錄像藝術為基點並致力拓展影像至空間裝置、劇場體驗、跨媒體合作等具實驗精神之創作範疇。除當代藝術領域外,並與劇場合作影像設計,以錄像作品與動態影像實驗提出對當下時代的深刻洞察。

Treating video art as the point of departure, CHEN Wan-Jen has endeavored to apply images to the fields of spatial installation, theatrical experience, and cross-media cooperation that share the spirit of experimentation. In addition to his works of contemporary art, the artist has collaborated with theaters in image design, thereby showing his profound insights about the present era by means of his video works and moving image experiments.
